Grandma's Tales-2

Grandma's further explanations continued a couple of weekends later... In case a person's father had more than one elder brothers, the eldest "Periyappa" was referred to as "Ponnappa", and the younger Periyappa as Periyappa..Similarly, the great grandmothers were called "Periya Paatis" or "Mokka Paatis"...It was good, the great-grandchildren got to see their  great-grandmothers... Interesting proposition...

The Grandparents of the olden days got to see nearly four-five  generations of their family in their lifetimes..And I attribute it all to the amount of physical work people did in those days, which helped in extending their life span.

From the way my grandma speaks and tells me tales of times that are far gone, I feel that people had more humanity to them, and life was much more simplified. We were not so modernized, and may be never made so much advancement in the fields of science and technology. But looking at the rate of environment degaradation and the amount of pollution we have, not to forget the threat we have due to the electromagnetic radiations emitted from our cellphones to microwave ovens, I feel for a moment that the earlier lifestyle never brought with it, environment degardation in such a massive scale.

May be we should take the best features of our ancient lifestyles and imbibe them, atleast the ones that are possible... It looks like it really makes a difference!
